About

Marc Coleman is one of Ireland’s leading economic commentators. He presents Ireland’s fastest growing radio show, Coleman at Large on Newstalk 106 to 108fm*. Marc also writes a weekly column in the Sunday Independent and is the author of two bestselling books, ‘The Best is Yet to Come’ and ‘Back from the Brink’.

Marc is not afraid of controversy and is forthright in his views. He forewarned of the current economic crisis and is on record from 2004 pointing out shortfalls in government policy and the hugely disproportionate role the construction sector played in the economy, leading to its ultimate downfall. Whilst Marc correctly predicted the crisis, he has also taken a stand on Ireland’s future position and is confident that the Irish economy can recover by 2020. He believes companies can and should be positive about the future of our economy.

Marc is in high demand both at home and abroad as a speaker and motivator and will encourage any group to look forward, innovate and be creative in order to place themselves in pole position when recovery comes. In 2005 Marc warned his Smurfit MBA class to diversify away from sectors dependant on personal credit growth. Now he helps companies spot growth opportunities in sectors that are defying recession. In fact, a comment he made on March 3rd 2006 in the Irish Times – that the Republic’s population would rise from 4.2 million in March 2006, to 5 million by 2020, is well on track, with a stunning third of a million rise between 2006 and 2011.

Marc is also an expert chairman, facilitator and MC and handles any situation from the most challenging debate, to a high-profile awards ceremony, with an equal degree of professionalism and control. Feedback on Marc’s speeches and his expertise as conference chair is unanimously positive.

He was educated to degree level at Trinity College Dublin, completed a Masters of Economic Science at University College Dublin. He continued his studies at the prestigious London School of Economics followed by the Kiel Institute of Economics. In 2005, he was awarded a scholarship MBA from the Smurfit School of Business. Before moving into broadcasting and writing, he spent 10 years working as an economist. First with the Department of Finance, then with the European Central Bank. He came back to Ireland in 2004 to complete an MBA and took up the position of Economics Editor of the Irish Times in 2005, a position he held until 2007.
